Student Scholarships

PhD Scholarship  

UNiCEN offers fully funded PhD scholarships to outstanding students who have keen interest in Urban Computing and Engineering, where students will have opportunity to work alongside with faculty and researchers, and to engage with leading industry players to design and implement working prototypes.

Students with an interest in Urban Computing and Engineering, particularly in the following areas, may apply: 

  • Large-scale optimisation and Meta-heuristics 
  • Autonomous Agents and Multi-agent Systems 
  • Agent-based Modeling and Simulation 
  • Human Behavioural Analysis 
  • Machine Learning and Statistical Analysis 
  • Urban Operations and Management   

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations Research or related engineering disciplines 
  • Research experience (publications, conferences, competitions) would be an added advantage 
  • Must meet admission requirements of PhD programme of SMU 

Scholarship Terms 

The scholarship will cover tuition fees and a monthly living allowance (stipend).  Please refer to SMU website (http://graduatestudies.smu.edu.sg/) for details. 

 

Master Scholarship 

UNiCEN also offers Master Scholarship to motivate outstanding full-time students in the MITB (Analytics) or MAIS Programmes to academic excellence and to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to deliver innovative and sustainable projects. In AY2015-2016, 1 scholarship will be awarded at the value of S$10,000.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Full-time students of any nationality matriculated in the MITB (Analytics) or MAIS Programme
  • Have outstanding academic results
  • Show evidence (work experiences or school activities) of being creative, resourceful and innovative

Special considerations may be given to students who satisfy one or more (but not restricted to) of the following:

  • Students with relevant experience in data analytics and/or operation management
  • Students with financial needs

Tenure and Benefits of the Scholarship

  • No bond is required of the scholarship recipient.
  • The scholarship recipient is required to embark on a capstone project with UNiCEN for a period of 6 months.  The commitment level of the scholarship recipient will be negotiated during the selection process between the scholarship recipient and the lab’s management.
  • The scholarship, valued at S$10,000, will be disbursed in accordance to disbursement schedule set out by SIS Postgraduate office of the relevant master programme. Note that full disbursement is given only when the recipient's Capstone Project with UNiCEN has been completed. The successful scholarship recipient shall finance tuition fees as per the MITB or MAIS programme’s requirement.
