3rd party booking system benefits smaller taxi operators

The Urban Computing and Engineering Corporate Lab @ SMU is collaborating with the Land Transport Authority to embark on a research project which aims to maximise the potential of taxis and empower taxi fleets to provide higher quality services. The project started in April this year and will last for one year and nine months. The Urban Computing and Engineering Corporate Lab @ SMU also shared some findings of the study at the recent Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition.

"The 3rd party booking system is open to all taxi drivers and it is based on customer's location to send the closest taxi without rely on which taxi company. As result, smaller taxi operators do not suffer from fleet or customer service centers," said Associate Professor Cheng Shih-Fen, who is the Deputy Director of the Fujitsu-SMU Urban Computing and Engineering Corp Lab.
