The Inauguration Grant is part of MOE’s Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent Scheme (START) scheme to attract Singaporeans who are ready to be placed on the pre-tenure track as Assistant Professors. Co-funded by MOE, the Grant is aimed at building a strong Singaporean core of academic and research talent.
Terms and Conditions of Inauguration Grant
- For newly hired tenure track Assistant Professors who are Singaporeans and
- Have no more than two years on the tenure track
- Are not current START scholars
- Have not received other sources of direct public funding, e.g. local PhD scholarships/postdoctoral fellowships
- Up to $200,000 award payable in 2 tranches
- Up to $80,000 after the first two years of service, plus
- Up to $120,000 after a total of four years of service
- A minimum service period of one year will be imposed following each award pay-out.
- Payment of award is subject to satisfactory performance throughout the two to four years.
Application
To be eligible for the Inauguration Grant, candidates must first apply and be shortlisted for the tenure track Assistant Professor positions and Schools will nominate suitable candidates to be considered for the Inauguration Grant. Candidates do not need to put in a separate application for the grant.
