Welcome to the SMU Family!


Dear Students

We have packed together some exciting Orientation Programmes to help you accomplish a smooth transition into university life. You are encouraged to participate in all our orientation events to make the most of your learning journey here at SMU.

Adding on, the SMU International Connections (ICON), our students' international group, has initiated two workshops this year to better prepare the International Freshmen for their academic year ahead. 

To sign up for the Orientation Programmes, please register by 28 July 2021, Wednesday.

Orientation Programmes

SMU Freshmen Orientation

21 July 2021

SMU’s largest freshmen event is back and it will be online!

Calling all freshmen! Are you ready to embark on a detective mission to complete exciting online activities, win attractive prizes and most importantly, forge new friendships with your peers?

Registration Details
Upon matriculation, all freshmen will receive an email from the Organising Committee for you to register. Do note that your place is only confirmed upon receiving a confirmation email from the Organising Committee.

[Compulsory] SMU ICON Orientation Programme (SMU ICON CAMP) (Online) 

1 - 3 August 2021

We are proud to bring you ICON Camp 2021 to welcome you to SMU!

Get ready for a host of fun and exciting (virtual) activities that will bring the very best of SMU and Singapore to you. Your facilitators will be accompanying you for this camp, and we hope that you will make lasting friendships as you meet (virtually) other freshmen and seniors from SMU and from around the world!

Get a chance to know what exciting opportunities SMU has to offer and experience the unique ICON culture at SMU ICON Camp 2021!

[Compulsory] SMU Buddy Programme (Online)

Available from June 2021

Begin your SMU journey by connecting with an SMU senior to find out what it's like to be a student at SMU. Approach your senior buddy to acquire information on accommodation, the campus, facilities and support available, and life in Singapore! 

A well-received programme not to be missed!

 

Organised by SMU International Connections (ICON), the Buddy Programme aims to promote cultural sharing and understanding in the SMU community. 

SMU Host Programme

27 August 2021, Friday, 8 pm - 9 pm
(Online introduction session)

Exclusively for SMU first-year full-time international students, you will be assigned a gracious and hospitable host family for a year in the SMU Host Programme. 

This friendship and cultural exchange programme aims to provide insights about life in Singapore through your host and widen your network of friends.

 
 

SMU ICON Workshops

SMU ICON BOSS Bidding Workshop

24 July 2021, Saturday, 11 am to 12:30 pm
25 July 2021, Sunday, 7 pm to 8:30 pm

What’s bidding? How many e$ should I bid for a class? How do I bid smart?

We have the answers!

SMU ICON's BOSS Bidding Workshop is a one-day informative workshop on bidding conducted by seniors from ICON. The session includes a comprehensive walkthrough of BOSS Bidding, as well as important bidding tips! You can also take this opportunity to clarify any questions you have with regards to bidding. After attending this workshop, you should have a better understanding of this unique SMU exercise and should be well-equipped to handle your first ever BOSS bidding... like a BOSS!

SMU ICON iCADEMICS!

7 August 2021, Saturday, 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm

What are classes in my degree like? 2nd majors? How do I do well in class?

We can help you!

SMU ICON’s Connect with Seniors is an informative and discussion-based event where you will get the opportunity to connect with seniors from your own faculty! This event serves as a great way for freshmen to get to know seniors in their own faculty, as well as get advice and tips regarding academics and life in SMU. Take this chance to ask them for academic tips, lessons and hacks to help you do your best in university. Our seniors will help you navigate SMU by providing you with degree-specific information, CCA experiences, SMU’s culture, etc.!
