Individual counselling
Individual counselling is available for students overwhelmed by feelings of anxiety, depression, shyness, low self-esteem and anger when faced with personal issues, academic challenges or career-related decisions. To ensure confidentiality and continuity in follow-ups, personal counsellors are assigned throughout the course of therapy.
Group counselling
Group therapy is for students who prefer to exchange affirmative feedback or learn new interpersonal behaviours alongside others undergoing similar experiences. Participants are matched to available groups by professional counsellors, based on their individual needs.
Crisis intervention
To speak to a counsellor during office hours, call or visit the Wellness Centre for a private consultation. External resources are available for crisis intervention.
Medical referrals
External mental health agencies may be recommended for longer-term follow-up and treatment. All referrals are made with students’ explicit agreement.
Depending on the client’s issue, some referrals may be made internally within the university (financial assistance, scholarship applications, advisement on academic processes, etc) with the student’s consent.
